Lovin It!

I'm in my 2nd day of orientation at the hospital & so far it's great! First day was all about hospital orientation. Today was the first day of GN orientation. Both days have been all sitting in a conference room with a very large binder in front of me with lots of information being given by various people. So my bum is sore & my brain is overwhelmed with info!

Call me weird, but today I was captivated. I listened intently all day & honestly I was not bored. I don't know how that is possible. I felt like all the burning questions I had as a student were being answered & that felt really good. Only because I am the type of person who likes to know everything about getting from point A to point B. So as a student, filling out the menu with the patient bothered me b/c I didn't know how to answer their questions and I certainly didn't know where to put the darn thing when we were done, or what time the meals came, etc. Now I know all of those little details that make the floor RNs seem so incredibly smart. Their secret has been spoiled - all they did was go to GN orientation! Duh!

The excitement of the day is talking about NCLEX. So far one girl has taken it and failed. She sat for 6 hours & got 230 questions! I feel badly for her but she is in good spirits. Everyone is buzzing about when they are scheduled to take it; a few next week and a few around the end of July with me. Then we are hearing about others in our class from school who have or are taking it and all those little details. (We all kind of know each other b/c they hired all of their GNs from my school. Hopefully that is a sign of what a good education we received at the community college!!)

So, all in all I have been able to breathe a little easier knowing now what they expect from us GNs. To top it off, I really love the philosophy of the hospital & I feel proud to say that I work there. Of course you probably want to know which hospital it is, but I can't tell you everything!
