Getting Back to Good

I realized that yesterday was very negative. So here is a positive one for you.

I am getting much more comfortable with the IV meds and the IV pump in general. That makes me very happy.

I am getting better at taking verbal orders, faxing them to pharmacy & transcribing them onto the med kardex. Lots of lingo, but the gist is I am getting the administrative process more each day.

I have admitted 3 people so far, including their computer history, meds, allergies, height & weight, vaccine status, shift assessment, focus assessment & IV assessment. I know how to do all of that, I am pretty amazed with myself.

There is a lot to learn still, but I do see progress. I think I am going in the right direction :) I will start with 2 patients next week. That should be fun! Things I want to work on, being more assertive in trying to get my venipuncture sticks & hep-lock sticks. I just need to say, "Hey, let me try to get that person's blood." I've realized though, that I hate to give needles. I hope that in time I will get used to it...

All in all things are looking good. My preceptor & educator are pleased. I wish I was further along, but like I told my husband, I am an over-achiever - I won't be happy with anything less than the best. I will just have to be patient with myself!!
