Ok, it's 5:45am on Sunday - is there anyone else awake at this awful hour? Nobody should be. I only have 2 more weekends after this left in my clinical rotations. So, some interesting things to note about getting up this early...
1. When you are driving at 6am on a weekend day be careful b/c there are police patroling the streets. I guess they think that irresponsible, drunken people get up early and drive recklessly. I flew past a police officer doing 70 in a 55 not too long ago. I didn't get pulled over, but I was going to flash my nursing student uniform and stethoscope for some sympathy if I needed to.
2. If you go to Dunkin Donuts to buy decaf coffee (b/c you've already had 3 cups of regular at home), it will not be fresh. It will be an hour old & since you don't have time to wait for a new pot to be made - you'll get it for free :)
3. Waking up this early throws off your bodies' hunger mechanisms. At 5am you are still full from your late dinner the previous night. So instead of eating breakfast, you skip it, have coffee & head out the door. So as fate would have it, around 9:43am you get a severe hunger pang while helping a patient to the bedside commode. At 9:56am when you are cleaning your patient's bedside commode you immediately lose your appetite.
I'm off to another clinical - better go get dressed!

I JUST LOVE IT!!! You are awesome... I'll be sure to keep the Dunkin' Donuts tip in mind ;0) Oh, and to never clean up someone's commode AFTER I've eaten...
Thanks for the invite to the hidden blog. It reminds me of the notebook days. You really are great with your writing.
